GB4000: The Veteran Signal Generator

The GB4000 is a stand-alone signal generator made in Idaho and sold since roughly 2001 through independent dealers. It suits people who want direct keypad frequency entry and simultaneous multi-frequency output rather than software presets. It is not approved by the FDA as a medical device and does not treat, diagnose, or manage any disease.

The chapter describes it as an engineer's instrument sold to wellness users. That is a description, not a compliment or a complaint — but it is the single fact that decides whether the machine will feel liberating or tedious in your hands.

What follows separates three things that get blurred everywhere else in this subject: figures that are published and checkable, figures that are claimed but unaudited, and claims that are simply not true. The GB4000 is not approved by the FDA as a medical device. It does not treat, diagnose, prevent, or manage any disease, and nothing on this page should be read as suggesting otherwise. What the GB4000 actually is

A stand-alone signal generator with two output paths. In Audio mode it covers 1 Hz to 400,000 Hz, with 1/100 Hz resolution in the 1–40,000 Hz band. In RF mode it reaches 1 Hz to 20,000,000 Hz. Waveforms are square to 100 kHz and sine to 20 MHz — two shapes, no exotic options. Power input is 110 V AC, 60 Hz only.

Its most distinctive technical feature, and the one long-term owners cite most often as the reason they chose it, is simultaneous output: up to eight audio frequencies at once between 1 and 40,000 Hz, or up to two RF frequencies up to 20 MHz. Running several frequencies in parallel rather than stepping through them one at a time is a specific workflow that the other platforms in the book handle differently. If that capability is why you are looking at the machine, confirm it is present in the package your dealer is quoting.

There is no PC software in the modern sense. The front panel is the entire user interface. You type a frequency on the keypad, select Audio or RF, set the amplitude, connect an accessory, and press Start. Programmed sequences live in 2,000 user-programmable channels, arranged as 48 frequencies in sequence or six groups of eight — but each channel is entered by hand on the keypad, and the interface does not support named channels. Owners who build long sequences tend to keep paper logs of their channel assignments.

The 2,000 channels are empty slots, not a preloaded library. A GB4000 owner arriving from a preset-driven platform is building a personal library from scratch rather than inheriting one. That is a workload, and it is worth pricing into the decision alongside the hardware.

The three output stages, and what each figure rests on

Power on this platform arrives in tiers, and the chapter is explicit that the tiers are not equally well documented. The generator's own RF output is modest. The SR-4 amplifier raises it. The MOPA amplifier — Master Oscillator, Power Amplifier, an acronym borrowed from the engineering world — is the plasma pathway: it converts the generator's output into a high-power RF signal capable of driving a plasma tube, with an internal carrier variable from approximately 2.3 MHz to 3.7 MHz, modulated by the frequency you entered.

The 190 W radiant figure is a manufacturer and distributor specification. It has not been verified by independent laboratory audit. Neither has the 20 MHz RF ceiling. This is not a peculiarity of the GB4000 — the chapter applies the same skepticism to Spooky2 Central's roughly 40 W and to the BCX Ultra Double Blaster's 300 W claim. None of the three highest claimed-output plasma amplifiers in the consumer market has been audited, and the prior question — whether 190 W, 300 W, or 40 W makes any difference at all at this level — is not resolved by peer-reviewed literature in either direction. Treat every one of these numbers as a planning figure for comparison, never as a certified measurement.

The plasma tube is a separate purchase and a consumable. The gas degrades under repeated ionization and the tube eventually stops striking a stable plasma. Expected service life varies with duty; the chapter gives the order of magnitude as several hundred to a few thousand hours. Anyone running the MOPA regularly should budget for replacement tubes as an ongoing cost rather than a one-time one.

Documented, unclear, and not true

Documented. The machine exists, has been in production since approximately 2001, and its specifications are published in distributor documentation you can read before buying. The front-panel workflow is what the manuals describe. Warranty terms genuinely do vary by dealer rather than being set centrally. Package contents and pricing genuinely do differ between distributors. The plasma tube genuinely is a consumable. The secondary market genuinely exists, and used units typically sell 30–50 percent below new depending on condition and included accessories.

Unclear. The 190 W radiant output and the 20 MHz RF ceiling are unaudited claims. Whether higher plasma power makes any practical difference is unresolved. Why owners choose the MOPA is documented — they cite higher power, incremental expansion of a machine they already own, and the clarity of the hookup documentation — but the first of those three reasons rests on a belief the literature does not settle. The chapter says so plainly rather than repeating the reasoning as though it were a finding.

Not true. The GB4000 is not approved by the FDA as a medical device. It does not treat, diagnose, prevent, or manage any disease, and no claim to the contrary — from a dealer, a forum, or a manual — is supported. Nor is it true that the numbers people load into its channels are Royal Rife's own frequencies. As Chapter 1 of the book establishes, the overwhelming majority of what circulates as 'Rife frequencies' descends from the 1953 Crane-Marsh AZ-58 reconstruction, which moved from plasma to contact pads, from sine to square, and shifted the frequency values by a factor of ten. The CAFL lists a GB4000 owner will type into those 2,000 channels are community tradition with seventy years of reported experience behind them — which is a real thing, and a different thing from clinical evidence. The CAFL's own introduction says as much.

Who this machine suits

Someone who wants to type a number. The GB4000's purest use case is direct frequency entry: you enter a value on the keypad and the machine outputs it. There is no preset layer hiding the number from you, no database suffix to decode, no software update to install. Readers who find that precision satisfying rather than laborious are the platform's actual audience, and the chapter is candid that people who find the numeric entry tedious were never the target buyer.

Someone who specifically wants simultaneous multi-frequency output. Eight audio frequencies at once is the feature no other machine in the book's four-platform comparison offers in the same way. If that is the reason you are here, it is a defensible reason.

Someone who wants a stand-alone instrument. No computer is required. Nothing breaks when a software vendor changes their release schedule. The machine boots, runs a self-test, and works from its own front panel — a durability argument that a quarter-century of production and an active secondary market both support.

Someone already invested. An existing GB4000 owner who wants plasma capability can add the MOPA rather than change platforms. That incremental path is real, and it is the most common reason owners give for buying the amplifier.

Who this machine is wrong for

This is the section most machine pages omit, so here it is directly. If any of the rows below describes what you actually want, the GB4000 is the wrong purchase and no amount of enthusiasm from a dealer changes that. The chapter's own limits list is short and blunt, and it is the most useful page in the chapter.

Beyond the feature gaps: if you want a preloaded protocol library, this is the wrong platform — the 2,000 channels are empty slots you fill yourself. If you plan to run long community sequences of thirty or forty frequencies, understand that entering one is an evening of keypad work. If you live outside North America, the machine is 110 V / 60 Hz only and requires a step-down transformer of 300 W or greater. And if you want a touchscreen and a phone app, you will not find either, and you will not enjoy the machine you bought.

Before you spend

Shop across dealers, not one quotation. Because distribution runs through independent dealers, price, package contents, warranty terms, and even documentation differ between them. As of 2026 the generator alone is typically around $2,495, and the generator with the MOPA package typically lands between roughly $4,495 and $5,000 depending on distributor and accessories. Add approximately $375 for a plasma tube. Compare two or three dealers before committing, and get warranty terms in writing from the specific distributor rather than assuming a central manufacturer warranty covers you.

Documentation is revision-dependent and dealer-dependent. Different dealers publish slightly different manuals, and older units may lack documentation for features added in later revisions. This matters most on the secondary market.

Buying used. The GB4000's longevity has produced an active secondary market that the other three platforms do not match — eBay, Craigslist, small community forums, and dealer trade-in programs. Whether that is a bargain depends entirely on your appetite for verification. Check five things before money moves: the unit's revision, readable from the serial-number plate and the boot-up self-test screen; whether the MOPA is included, since adding it later costs thousands; the distributor of origin, because warranty and documentation follow the dealer; whether a plasma tube is included and whether it still strikes a stable plasma, since a depleted tube is near scrap value; and a live demonstration that the unit powers up and accepts keypad input. A seller willing to show you the power-up self-test is worth engaging. A seller unwilling to is a warning sign.

The community is small and technical. There is no single large official forum. Discussion happens across a handful of distributor-hosted pages, smaller Facebook groups, and independent multi-platform Rife spaces. The chapter is careful not to frame this as a defect: a smaller, more engineering-oriented community is a different proposition from a high-volume one, and some owners prefer the signal-to-noise ratio. But if you expect to be caught when you fall, count the size of the net first.

Safety carries over unchanged. Every contraindication in the book's safety chapter applies to the GB4000 without modification — pacemakers, implanted defibrillators, pregnancy, active cancer, Type 1 diabetes, photosensitive epilepsy, and ferromagnetic implants remain absolute contraindications on any platform. Never connect or disconnect electrodes, cables, the MOPA, or a tube while the generator is running; press Stop first. A burning sensation, sharp pain, or metallic taste means stop immediately. And leave the amplitude at the factory default when you are new: the relationship between amplitude and sensation is not linear, and turning it up mostly buys heat and skin sensitivity.
